25 Years of Heart Medicine at Albertinen

In 2016 Cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology and the Cardioanesthesia at Albertinen Hospital was celebrating its 25th anniversary. On July 2 1991 the first heart surgery was performed. Since then the Albertinen heart medicine has grown steadily and is today a leading provider in northern Germany. So far a total of nearly 80,000 diagnostic coronary angiography and interventions, as well as more than 30,000 heart operations and 13,000 pacemaker and defibrillator implantations were performed. A Department of Vascular Surgery and the new department Percutaneous Treatment of Valvular Heart Disease, Heart Failure and Device Therapy and Electrophysiology have expanded the range in recent years. Since 2008, there is a close inter-site collaboration with the Department of Cardiology in Ev. Amalie Sieveking-Krankenhaus, which also has a vascular surgery since the middle of last year. Today, the interdisciplinary "Heart team" has a critical role in order to identify the best treatment for each and every patient.

Our thanks go to our dedicated employees. Without them our success would not have been possible, and especially to our referring physicians and cooperation partners from medicine and industry.
